Georgia Power

Diversity Advisory Council

Georgia Power created a Diversity Advisory Council a few years ago to gain a fuller understanding of diversity issues at the company and the business implications. We wanted to take a deeper look at ourselves and see where and how we could be better for our employees, customers and other stakeholders.

The Diversity Advisory Council is made up of internal and external members including Booker Izell, retired vice president of community affairs and workforce diversity for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution; Bertram Sears, president of OMNI Power Clean; Frank Belatti, chairman and CEO, AFC Enterprises; Dr. Gerald Durley, pastor, Providence Missionary Baptist Church; Janice Mathis, vice president, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition; Maritza Soto Keen, director of the Latino Initiative for the University of Georgia; and William Stanley, president-elect, 100 Black Men of Atlanta.

The Diversity Advisory Council is made up of internal and external members, meets three times a year and is charged specifically to:

  • Provide high-level oversight of the company's diversity initiative.
  • Review strategic direction on longer-term issues of diversity management.
  • Create another level of accountability for meeting diversity objectives.
  • Challenge the thinking and practices of Georgia Power to help the company reach a higher standard.
  • Continue to suggest best practices from other companies.
