Integrated Transmission System (ITS)

Georgia Power co-owns and operates a network of more than 16,000 miles of transmission lines, referred to as the Integrated Transmission System (ITS). This includes the system of transmission voltage lines (46kV to 500kV) that are owned by Georgia Power, Georgia Transmission Company (GTC), the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG), and the City of Dalton. Georgia Power representatives can help you with any inquiries about ITS transmission rights of way.

Before the transmission lines in the ITS were constructed, property rights had to be secured. Parcels along the route chosen for the lines may have been obtained by purchasing the property outright (fee property), or by purchasing just the rights to a certain sized strips of property to construct, operate and maintain one or more electrical lines (easement).

Georgia Power's responsibility is to provide safe, reliable and economical electrical service to all customers. This requires unobstructed access along the ITS for maintaining power lines, facilities and rights of way and, most importantly, for preventing the occurrence of situations that could be hazardous to the public and employees within the area. We maintain unobstructed access by managing vegetation and potential encroachments on the rights of way.
