Selling Your Solar Back to Georgia Power

Georgia Power customers who generate electricity may sell some or all of that electricity back to Georgia Power. Small generators ( ≤ 100 kW) are eligible to sell their electricity under the Renewable & Non-renewable Resources Tariff (RNR-7) and the Solar Purchase Tariff (SP-1). Larger customers ( ≤ 80MW) may sell their electricity as a Qualifying Facility.

Renewable & Non-renewable Resources Tariff (RNR-7)

Learn how you can sell the electricity you generate back to Georgia Power at a rate equal to Georgia Power's avoided energy cost.

Georgia Power purchases renewable energy from eligible providers on a first-come, first-serve basis until the cumulative generating capacity of all renewable sources reaches a specific amount set by the Georgia Public Service Commission. The company will pay avoided energy cost as defined by the most recent informational filing made by the company in compliance with the final order in the PURPA Avoided Cost Docket 4822-U. Additional energy may be purchased by the company at a cost agreed to by it and the Provider. Georgia Power will purchase solar energy through the RNR tariff at the company's Solar Avoided Cost rate as approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Customers who desire to sell electricity back under the above tariff should complete, sign and return the Distributed Generation Contract:

Solar Purchase Tariff (SP-1)

Learn how you can sell the electricity you generate back to Georgia Power at a premium price, currently 17.00 cents/kWh.

Georgia Power buys energy from solar resources to supply the Green Energy Program through the Solar Purchase Tariff (SP-1). Qualifying customers can sell all of the energy produced from solar installations (≤100 kW in size) to Georgia Power at the Solar Purchase Price, currently 17¢ per kWh.

The amount of capacity Georgia Power can contract for through the SP-1 Tariff is limited. This limit is based on the amount of blocks of Premium Green Energy sold. At times when the SP-1 capacity is completely subscribed, Georgia Power maintains a waiting list for future projects. Qualifying Facilities

Learn how larger customers ( ≤ 80MW) may sell electricity generated from renewable resources back to Georgia Power.

Since 1978, utilities have been required to buy electricity from qualified small, independent power producers called "Qualifying Facilities," or "QFs."
