The Georgia Power Home Energy Improvement Program offers Georgia Power customers two approaches - "Whole-House" or "Individual Improvements" - when looking for ways to enjoy year-round comfort and home energy savings.

The most effective way to improve the comfort and energy efficiency of your home is through a comprehensive, whole house approach. Georgia Power customers who choose the "Whole-House" approach can qualify for up to $2,200 in rebates depending on which total energy reduction level is met.

The Whole-House option is a comprehensive approach that assesses all of the systems within your home. A Building Performance Institute (BPI)-certified participating contractor will use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and software to perform a comprehensive home energy assessment and identify specific energy-saving measures and home improvements that will reduce energy costs, improve indoor air quality and create a more comfortable and healthy home. Once the recommended improvements are successfully completed by a participating program contractor, a follow up assessment will determine the resulting energy performance and customers can receive a rebate up to $2,200 based on the energy savings actually achieved.

If the "Whole-House" approach does not fit your needs, you can still take advantage of "Individual Improvements" where up to $700 in rebates are paid depending on the energy efficiency improvements made.

Depending on the improvement type, installation may be performed by a homeowner, a non-BPI certified contractor and/or a BPI certified contractor. Once the Individual Improvements are successfully installed, the appropriate rebates up to $700 will be paid accordingly.

In addition to potential Georgia Power's Home Energy Improvement Program rebates, City of Atlanta residents may also qualify for possible SHINE rebates. SHINE is a residential weatherization rebate Pilot Program offering City of Atlanta homeowners the ability to receive up to $3,500 in additional rebates towards qualifying home energy improvements.

"I would say my home energy improvements turned out much better than I expected. I never thought I could have a 30 year old home that would be more energy efficient than a brand new house. I was pretty impressed by the savings! I was there when my consultant did the testing. He showed me an extensive amount of energy problems with my home and followed up with proposed solutions. Basically it was an MRI of my house. It was then up to me to contact professional contractors to come to my house and get improvement estimates."

Rocco - Dunwoody, Georgia

"I wanted my house to be more comfortable and not cold everywhere. My house was not really efficient. I only wanted to be more comfortable and not have to walk around with a jacket on. I guess I would say what's important to me is the comfort of my house, good air quality and that my house heats and cools so I am comfortable."

Cherylene - Ellenwood, Georgia

"I would say my Home Energy Improvement experience turned out better than expected. I was really surprised with the rebates and the federal tax credit we will get and dollar wise. It really brought it down to an affordable price for everything we did. I feel like we got much needed improvements for our house at a great price. The contractor went above and beyond what I expected. I thought they were great and they went that extra mile to make sure I was happy."

Josh - Atlanta, Georgia

"The rebate was my main incentive to try the Home Energy Improvements. Knowing that I would get something back, along with the savings, and knowing that I was trying to make my house more energy efficient - and being more responsible as far as energy cost and usage goes."
