Johnson & Johnson

Johnson & Johnson puts multiple energy solutions to work and saves

If a single storefront can save thousands of dollars a year with a single energy solution, imagine how much larger, more diverse companies can save. Johnson & Johnson has four companies in Georgia alone. With the help of an Energy Efficiency Audit from Georgia Power, Johnson & Johnson was able to find five solutions to cut their energy dollar. And that’s just the start.

Innovations — Johnson & Johnson was able to take advantage of these energy saving ideas and solutions:

  • Energy Efficiency Audits — Periodic audits analyze Johnson & Johnson’s energy use to discover new ways to save money.
  • Real-Time Pricing — Johnson & Johnson can access hourly prices for electricity before they use it. Now, they can plan energy use better and save money.
  • Standby Generators — Georgia Power maintains, tests, and dispatches generators to Johnson & Johnson in case of emergencies.
  • Multiple Load Management Rate —Johnson & Johnson was able to combine billing for its four Georgia companies, which lowered energy costs.
  • Chiller Modernization Rate — Johnson & Johnson was able to modernize its chillers to meet environmental standards for non-CFC refrigerants.

Even more inventive, energy-saving ideas are on the way, including engineering services such as vibration analysis and infrared thermography.

Findings — The rate services alone — Multiple Load Management, Chiller Modernization, and Real Time Pricing — have shaved 11% off Johnson & Johnson’s energy costs in one year. Other solutions have offered these results:
  • The energy audits showed Johnson & Johnson more ways to save money by upgrading to high-efficiency lighting and motors.
  • Johnson & Johnson is protected against disaster and downtime with immediate access to standby generators.
