Fishing, park and recreation information

The Power of Nature

Georgia Power is the largest non-government provider of recreation facilities in the state. If you are in Georgia, you probably aren't far from a Georgia Power lake or park. Come on out and enjoy our great outdoors. Get the latest information in The Newsletter of Georgia Power Lakes (PDF 1MB).

Georgia Power lakes offer swimming, fishing and boating. Nearby areas have picturesque scenery, hiking trails, picnic areas, and campgrounds. In addition, Georgia Power leases about 30,000 acres of prime hunting land to the State of Georgia for use as wildlife management areas operated by the Wildlife Resources Division of the Department of Natural Resources.

Falling Water

Fourteen lakes lie behind Georgia Power dams, each a treasure for local sportsmen and a respite for families caught in the rush of city life.

In many cases the dams have provided nearly a century of electrical power. Today, hydroelectricity accounts for approximately 1,078 megawatts of electricity. To see how falling water is turned into electricity, visit How Hydroelectricity Works.

The dams also establish shorelines for lake front homes, hotels, wilderness areas and parks. All of them offer increased economic and recreational opportunities for the communities they serve.
