Atlantic Drive Substation

Georgia Power proposes to construct a new substation and related facilities known as the Atlantic Drive substation on a 1.5 acre site located west of Interstate 75/85 on the corner of 14th Street and Atlantic Drive.

The Atlanta metro area is continuing to see steady growth and renewed interest in urban living. The redevelopment of Atlantic Station includes residential units, commercial office space and retail shops. As the project continues to grow and expand, redevelopment of the surrounding area is occurring driving, the need to expand the electrical system.

A new substation on the west side of the downtown connector is required to relieve some of the loading.

The Georgia Power land location committee looked at many sites for the substation; however, from an engineering and cost standpoint, locating the substation on the selected site is the most practical and feasible option.

Georgia Power's site selection committee also assessed the community impacts that could result from construction and operation of the substation.

Landscaping following construction will ensure that the substation blends in more readily with the surrounding community.

In an effort to make the surrounding neighborhoods and elected officials aware of the project, an Open House was held October 22, 2008. Grading work is planned to begin in 2011.
