Joint Trench

Our Joint Trench services team makes planning and installing fiber, TV and phone cables easier by laying the cables in trenches that are used for Georgia Power underground cable. Builders, communication and internet companies benefit from decreased installation costs and planning, while Georgia Power serves as the single point of contact for all work and planning associated with underground cable installations.

How can our Joint Trench team help you?

By having Georgia Power install your cables in the same trenches as electrical lines, the cables are provided greater protection from:

  • Erosion issues
  • Digging damages during construction
  • Right-of-way disputes
  • Electrical grounding issues (single-point bonding)

Areas of Expertise

  • Residential
    • subdivisions and multifamily units
  • Mixed-use projects
  • Commercial developments

Joint Trench can benefit a variety of customers needing to run cable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process for requesting a project with Joint Trench capabilities?

Developers provide an approval for the development, including their primary phone & cable TV vendors. The Georgia Power Engineering & Construction Coordination team then submits the GPC underground design to those phone and cable vendors (potential Joint Trench customers). We take care of all project scheduling, final customer design and the delivery of materials.

As a developer, how can I initiate a Joint Trench opportunity?

We suggest you request Joint Trench utility construction during initial development meetings with Georgia Power. This allows us to ensure the cable, TV and internet providers are aware of this solution prior to installing any infrastructure.
