Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Georgia Power

January 24, 2019

MLK Day 2019

Georgia Power employees, along with any employees affiliated with Southern Company, volunteered across the state on Monday, Jan. 21, as a way to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service to all. Through local Citizens of Georgia Power chapters throughout Georgia, thousands of volunteers spent a “day on” rather than a day off by donating their time to service projects.

Volunteer projects included working with Habitat for Humanity, completing outdoor landscaping for local nonprofit organizations, organizing donations and assembling pantry bags at food banks, and helping paint walls at community schools to name just a few.

Georgia Power Chairman & CEO Paul Bowers spent his “day on” serving with the Plant Bowen Citizens chapter by assisting with outdoor cleanup at Black Pioneers Cemetery.

"Georgia Power employees are passionate about improving the lives of our friends and neighbors in communities across the state," said Chris D'Andrea, volunteer services manager. "We ask that all Georgia Power employees and Southern Company employees help us to continue to give back to Georgians."
