$1 million endowment given in Paul Bowers' honor to CHOA

A quasi-endowment in the amount of $1 million to support the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta was given in honor of Paul Bowers, chairman, president and CEO of Georgia Power for his visionary leadership as Chairman of the Children's Foundation.

Mr. W. Paul Bowers

Whereas, Mr. W. Paul Bowers, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Georgia Power, is a widely known and highly respected leader in the community and across the state, as admired and denoted for his commitment to civic duty as for his business acumen; and

Whereas, Mr. W. Paul Bowers demonstrated a great passion for the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Inc. ("Children's") mission, a generous spirit, strength of character and astute judgment, which resulted in his appointment as the fourth Chairman of the Board of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, Inc. (the "Children's Foundation"), a position he enthusiastically accepted; and

Whereas, in his role as Chairman of the Children's Foundation, Mr. W. Paul Bowers brought to bear a depth of knowledge of metro Atlanta's philanthropic community knowledge that proved to be invaluable in advancing charitable initiatives for Children's and elevating the profile of the Children's Foundation; and

Whereas, under his direction, fundraising within the Children's Foundation grew to an all-time high, while cost to raise a dollar remained below the national standard; significant donor funds were secured for the new Center of Advanced Pediatrics; and critical groundwork was laid for the Breaking New Ground campaign, which will be the largest fundraising endeavor in the history of Children's; and

Whereas, during his tenure, Mr. W. Paul Bowers leveraged his executive leadership skills to strengthen the Children's Foundation, constantly absorbing data, identifying inefficiencies, encouraging discussions, driving results and inspiring staff to greater heights in order to ensure the Foundation is a finely run organization whose best business practices parallel its reputation for national excellence; and

Whereas, Mr. W. Paul Bowers always led by example, set high goals and realized achievements with warmth, compassion, humor and a love of children apparent to all with whom he served; and

Whereas, the respective Boards of Trustees wish to acknowledge Mr. W. Paul Bowers for his gifts of time, talent and generosity, which he has given so freely over the years.

Now, therefore, be it resolved, that each Board of Trustees recognizes and thanks Mr. W. Paul Bowers for the wisdom, discernment and dedication that he consistently demonstrated as Chairman, and for his willingness to lend his considerable executive expertise to advance the fundraising efforts of Children's.

Be it further resolved, that a quasi-endowment in the amount of $1 million to support the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center be established at Children's from this day, December 18, 2018, forward to be named for and in honor of Mr. W. Paul Bowers for his visionary leadership as Chairman of the Children's Foundation.

Be it further resolved, that this resolution be placed in the permanent records of Children's and be appropriately displayed as a constant reminder to future generation of patients, families, volunteers, donors, Trustees and employees of the strengthened hope and healing made possible by the unwavering commitment of Mr. W. Paul Bowers to this most worthy endeavor.
