January 18, 2023

Georgia Power’s Senior Vice President of Charitable Giving, Mike Anderson, was recently named as the Chair of the Board of Saint Joseph’s Health System. He is the first African American to serve in this position.

In his current position with Georgia Power, Anderson is CEO of the Georgia Power Foundation and the Southern Company Charitable Foundation, along with having Georgia Power Management Council responsibilities. Previously, he has led several other functions including Corporate Services. He also held numerous leadership positions in Capital Budgeting, System Planning, Electric Transportation, Customer Operations, Information Technology, Marketing and External Affairs.

As a lifetime resident and active member of the Atlanta community, Mike has a deeply held commitment to the service of others after graduating from Georgia Tech and Emory University.

“I have a long-standing connection to this community and to the mission of Saint Joseph’s Health System,” said Anderson, who has been on the Saint Joseph’s Board of Directors since 2013. “I am truly humbled and honored to assume the role of board chair for an organization that I admire, deeply respect and that aligns well with the goals of Georgia Power’s Charitable Giving organization. Providing resources and services to empower people and champion community innovation is a higher calling that is well worth all of our collective efforts."

Saint Joseph’s Health System is Atlanta’s first faith-based and longest-serving hospital, with a mission that spans over 140 years —to provide compassionate care, especially to those in need. Mercy Care, as the primary focus of its work, offers primary care services for adults and children with special focus on those with chronic conditions and infectious diseases. Mercy Care also provides psychiatry, behavioral health, substance abuse counseling, dental, vision, street medicine and more.

In addition to this work in support of Saint Joseph’s, he has also maintained significant involvement with Emory University and Georgia Tech. Anderson’s community recognitions include the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council's Lifetime Achievement Award, Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver and Whitney M. Young Awards, Woodruff Arts Center Exceptional Service Award, Chauncey Davis Foundation’s Man of the Year Award, Atlanta Business League Men of Distinction Award and The Georgia Institute of Technology’s highest honors, The Joseph M. Petit Award and Total Person Alumnus Award.
