Meet Tate, Chemical Technician at Plant Yates

Newnan native Frank, or “Tate,” is proud to be a chemical technician at Plant Yates. After recently celebrating his one-year anniversary with the plant, the husband and father said it feels good to now settle into a work family who not only cares about him, but also the millions of Georgia Power customers they are privileged to serve.

Tate said he could not have asked for a better launch into his career. After graduating in 2020 from the University of West Georgia with his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, he was eager to put his skills to use. He quickly landed a contractor position with Georgia Power’s Generation team, where he supported plants Bowen and Wansley.

It didn’t take Tate long to determine that Generation was where he wanted to be long-term. “I feel like I’m making a difference and having the opportunity to make an impact at Plant Yates, located in the area where I was born and raised, makes my job even more fulfilling.”

As a chemical technician, Tate is responsible for performing technical and analytical services essential to the operation of the plant, such as providing chemical protection of steam generating equipment to minimize outages, assisting in ensuring compliance with applicable environmental, safety, and health regulations, and a plethora of other duties to help keep reliable energy flowing 24-7/365.

“There are so many important roles in Generation that are needed to keep things running for our customers. It’s a privilege to be able to accomplish this goal with a close-knit team that looks out for each other.”

Like most jobs, Tate’s also has its demands, but he’s thankful for the solid team of cheerleaders who encourage him to push through.

“My wife and daughter are my motivation for waking up every day and giving my all. My teammates at Yates also motivate me. I wouldn’t want to let them down.”

Tate looks forward to having a bright future at Georgia Power. He is striving to make his parents, along with his wife and 8-month-old daughter, Lily, proud.
