At Georgia Power, we are dedicated to being good environmental stewards by preserving, protecting and enhancing the state we call home.
Through education, partnerships and projects that result in conservation, restoration and increased environmental awareness, we focus on the things that make our communities great not only for the present but create a better Georgia for generations to come. Georgia Power supports environmentally focused organizations and programs that improve air and water quality, preserve natural resources and protect endangered species. In 2016, we invested nearly $1 million through environmental sponsorships, education programs and partnerships to increase awareness and ensure a lasting natural legacy for our state.
Over 500 Georgia Power volunteers across the state held 36 environmental stewardship projects with community partners for Earth Day as well as 20 other environmental projects throughout 2016. These initiatives included habitat enhancement, such as building bat boxes, invasive species removal, trail improvements, limb trimming, debris removal, constructing a canoe launch, community and school garden work, recycling efforts, public park and campground cleanups, and community beautification projects.
Renew Our Rivers
As part of Georgia Power’s commitment to the environment, we participate in annual waterway cleanups statewide through the Renew Our Rivers program. In 2016, alone, more than 900 volunteers participated in 18 Renew Our River cleanups and collected nearly 115,000 pounds of trash from the state’s waterways.
