Wallace Dam Relicensing

The Wallace Dam Project occupies approximately 39 miles of the Oconee River. The dam and the powerhouse are located in Hancock and Putnam counties. The project reservoir, Lake Oconee, lies in Putnam, Hancock, Morgan, and Greene counties. Lake Oconee covers 19,000 acres and has 374 miles of shoreline.

Georgia Power Reaches Agreement with Toshiba

Georgia Power has received $3.68 billion in parent guarantee payments from Toshiba, reducing the total cost of the plant for Georgia Power by approximately $1.7 billion with every dollar received from Toshiba being used to benefit customers.

Plant Vogtle Facts

  • In June 2009, Plant Vogtle's Operating license was extended for an additional 20 years.
  • Southern Company's three nuclear plants have operated at high levels of reliability, with an average three-year fleet capacity factor of 93.1 percent, exceeding the U.S. average of 88.7 percent for the years 2010-2012.
  • Nuclear power typically has the highest capacity factor of any generation source — about 90 percent.
  • Power uprate projects added approximately 20 megawatts of output to each unit in 2008 while also upgrading several plant systems.
  • Plant Vogtle has been certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council since 1993 for wildlife enhancement and conservation efforts.
