We own a network of electric generation plants, hydro dams and multiple solar energy facilities spread across the state, providing safe, clean, reliable and affordable energy to 2.7 million customers.
Georgia Power owns two nuclear facilities, Hatch and Vogtle. The plants are managed by Southern Nuclear, a sister company owned by Southern Company, which specializes in nuclear operations. Southern Nuclear also operates Alabama Power's Farley Nuclear Plant. Management of nuclear energy facilities is a complex and tightly regulated operation that requires the attention of experienced technicians and proven methods.
Approximately 200 acres at Plant Hatch have been replanted with native long-leaf pine which are also Bluebird and Purple Martin nesting habitats.
Nuclear power provides 16 percent of Southern Company’s generation, and we have been operating nuclear plants safely and reliably for more than 40 years.
Coal, the most abundant fuel source in the United States, accounts for most of Georgia Power's generating capacity.
Coal is formed by chemical changes to plant material over a period of many years, converting it to combustible rock composed of carbon and other elements like oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur and nitrogen. Coal is extracted from the ground and transported to Georgia from other states.
Fossil fuel plants are fitted with emission control technologies that help minimize the quantities and impacts of gaseous emissions.
Natural gas generation uses one of America's most abundant resources to produce safe, reliable and clean energy. Natural gas-fueled combined cycle power plants offer one of the cleanest and most efficient methods of producing electricity.
Natural gas is first removed from wells drilled into the ground. It is then treated to remove any impurities before pipelines transport the natural gas to power plants.
Located on the 358-acre plant site about six miles northwest of Atlanta on the Chattahoochee River.
Hydro was once the principal source of power in the United States. These facilities played a significant role in spurring Georgia's industrial development and continue to produce power today.
Bartletts Ferry dam is located on a narrow part of the Chattahoochee River, that connects Alabama and Georgia.
Solar power generation has emerged as one of the most rapidly growing renewable sources of electricity. We’re proud to work with the US Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force to develop innovative solar energy projects, both on and off base. Our collaborations support military bases across Georgia, as well as federal emergency projects and local communities.
