Georgia Power Celebrates the Success of Generation Appreciation Month

As Generation Appreciation Month comes to a close, Georgia Power reflects on the remarkable contributions of over 1,100 skilled professionals who ensure our communities enjoy reliable energy every day of the year. Throughout August, we recognized the heroes behind the scenes, whose expertise and commitment keep the lights on, regardless of the season's demands. The diverse and vital roles within the generation team were also highlighted, showcasing the exciting career paths available for those interested in joining this essential workforce. Employee spotlights, like Regina Linch, whose family legacy features long-standing careers in generation were shared across social media and the Georgia Power website.

As we project approximately 8,500 megawatts of electrical load growth by the end of 2030, the opportunities for skilled professionals in this sector will continue to expand. With new resources totaling 9,900 MW requested for certification from the Public Service Commission, we anticipate the need for well over 100 additional employees to safely and reliably operate these new facilities.

Georgia Power’s generation careers are marked by continuous learning, with team members honing their skills at the Rockmart training facility. This year, the facility scheduled a total of 3,629 hours of training, offering both hands-on and classroom instruction for electrical, mechanical, and Instrumentation and Control Technicians, as well as General Plant Operators (GPOs).

Georgia Power generation employees come from all backgrounds and walks of life, exemplified by leaders like Rick Anderson, senior vice president and senior production officer. Anderson, a Georgia Tech engineering graduate, has a wealth of experience across Southern Company generation facilities. He leads with a passion for generating electricity that powers the daily lives of our community, sharing a dedication to safely serving our customers around the clock.

“As an engineer, there are few careers that are as fulfilling as working in a power plant as part of a team that is responsible for generating electricity that powers daily lives of our neighbors and communities. You are truly a part of something bigger than yourself,” said Anderson. “I’m privileged to be a part of an exceptional group of teammates across this great state who share a dedication of safety serving our customers around the clock. As we continue to expand our diverse energy mix to serve a growing Georgia, I know our generation team is ready to meet the challenge both today and tomorrow.”

Georgia Power's generation fleet stands among the most efficient and highest performing in the country.

In 2024, teams across hydro, natural gas, nuclear, and coal-fired generation plants maintained operations and maintenance activities at a level of excellence well above industry standards. Last year's equivalent forced outage rate (EFOR) was among the best in company history, with an outage rate of just 1.35%.

Looking forward, Georgia Power remains committed to expanding its diverse energy mix to serve Georgia's growing demand. For those interested in a rewarding career with Georgia Power, visit our website to learn about opportunities and how to get started.
