Behind Every Flip of the Switch: Meet Erica

Erica, a Senior Maintenance Specialist at Georgia Power's Plant McDonough, exemplifies dedication and innovation in the energy sector. Originally from Chicago and now residing in Stonecrest, Georgia, Erica joined Georgia Power in 2024, bringing valuable skills from her time as a Navy gas turbine mechanic and her experience in the aerospace industry.

Since becoming a full-time employee in April 2024, Erica has been pivotal in predictive and preventive maintenance of critical equipment at McDonough, a Combined Cycle Power generation plant. Her passion for problem-solving drives her work, ensuring the plant's equipment operates efficiently.

"Being at the foundation of providing reliable energy gives me a sense of pride," Erica shared. "My role is very important—if the equipment isn't running, we're not producing megawatts."

Erica's commitment extends beyond her technical expertise. She is a vocal advocate for women in STEM, recognizing the need for more representation.

"Many times, I'm the only women in the room, and while you see more nowadays, the ratio is still off balance," she observed, urging young women to explore the abundant opportunities in STEM fields.

She is grateful for the support of her family and longtime partner. She is also inspired by her plant manager, LaTonya.

"LaTonya is awesome," Erica noted, acknowledging her manager's encouragement and role in her professional development.

As Generation Appreciation Month unfolds, Erica Wilson stands as a beacon of inspiration, demonstrating the vital role women play in shaping the future of energy.
