Residing in the coastal city of Savannah, Georgia, Marcus is a Compliance Team Leader at Plant McIntosh Combined Cycle. Marcus has dedicated two decades to his career ensuring safety and environmental standards at Georgia Power, embodying the spirit of Generation Appreciation Month.
Marcus oversees compliance for coastal generation, including four sites: McIntosh Combined Cycle, McIntosh Combustion Turbine, McManus Combustion Turbine, and Warner Robins Combustion Turbine at Warner Air Force Base.
Born and raised in Louisiana, Marcus resides in the Savannah area with his wife of 35 years and their four children. His career at Southern Company began in 1992 as a Savannah Electric employee, following his studies at McNeese State, Savannah State, and Savannah Tech. Marcus entered the compliance field at Plant Riverside, Plant Kraft, and Plant McIntosh.
"We're here to provide power safely and environmentally,” Marcus said. “My job is to ensure compliance with permits and policies. Safety trumps everything. If we're not safe, we're not going to do it.”
Marcus loves the variety that each new day brings and is proud to do his part to support the growing demand for energy in Georgia. That’s why he encourages anyone interested to consider a career in education.
“There are plenty of opportunities for people who work well with their hands and brains,” Marcus said. “If you like fixing things, Generation is the place to be. … Georgia Power welcomes all walks of life. From education to communication, there’s a field for everybody."
Marcus said the family-like culture within the Georgia Power’s Generation team is always a huge perk for him.
“A lot of us came up in the business together,” Marcus said. “It feels good to work with your extended family every day.”
