Georgia Power Supports New Housing in Gwinnett County

Georgia Power and the Georgia Power Foundation are helping drive a major affordable housing redevelopment in Gwinnett County, supporting the transformation of a long‑vacant extended‑stay hotel into more than 70 new apartments for vulnerable residents.

The project, led by the Gwinnett Housing Corporation, will convert the former Spring Swallow Lodge on Jimmy Carter Boulevard into Crest Pointe Village, a safe and stable community designed specifically for seniors and for young adults ages 18 to 24 who are aging out of the foster care system.

To support the redevelopment, the Georgia Power Foundation contributed $25,000 to the project. Georgia Power teams are also working closely with developers to evaluate potential programs that could reduce costs and help ensure long‑term sustainability and affordability for future residents.

“Access to safe, affordable housing is foundational to a thriving community,” said Kelley Balkcom, region executive at Georgia Power. “We’re proud to partner on this redevelopment and help provide stability, opportunity, and dignity for seniors and young adults who need it most. Supporting projects like Crest Pointe Village demonstrates our commitment to strengthening the communities we are privileged to serve.”

The renovation of the property will bring an underutilized building back into productive use while meeting a growing housing need in one of Georgia’s largest counties.

The Georgia Power Foundation supports nonprofits and local initiatives that deliver meaningful, measurable impact. Its investment in Crest Pointe Village is part of the company’s broader effort to advance innovative housing solutions and support Georgians statewide.
