What happens when Atlanta’s civic and corporate partners get together and decide to throw a party for active seniors? It becomes an instant hit!
More than 600 seniors attended the inaugural Engage at Every Age Expo at Georgia State University Stadium.
Presenting sponsor Georgia Power joined forces with AARP of Georgia, City of Atlanta, Georgia Institute of Aging and Georgia State to create a one-day expo filled with entertainment, cooking demonstrations, wellness activities and educational exhibits designed for today’s active senior population.
Over 40 exhibitors were onsite to offer tips, ranging from IRS tax advice to home meal deliveries from the Meals on Wheels organization. Georgia State University School of Nursing and Morehead School of Medicine performed free health assessment screenings.
Sessions covering social engagement and technology along with volunteerism and travel were big hits with the audience.
Georgia Power’s Energy Assistance team enrolled attendees in the company’s Senior Citizen Discount while also updating widows’ account information. Energy Efficiency experts shared tips and information for setting up home energy audits.
More than a dozen civic partners made the expo possible. Events like this play an important role in addressing the unique needs of senior communities. Want to engage in the May 2019 expo? Please contact Charmaine Ward-Millner at cward@southernco.com.
