Georgia Power employee volunteers assemble over 5,000 backpacks for students around the state

With children returning to school around the state, more than 500 Georgia Power employees have voluntarily purchased school supplies and assembled over 5,000 backpacks for those in need.

Employee volunteerism in communities around the state has long been a hallmark of Georgia Power, going back at least a century, and is recognized in its longstanding motto, “A Citizen Wherever We Serve.” With 48 chapters statewide, Citizens of Georgia Power, the company’s employee volunteer organization, assists their communities through fundraising and service projects.

“All around the state, the Citizens of Georgia Power membership have made our youth a focus. By donating supplies and stuffing backpacks, we’re helping over 5,000 Georgia students start the school year off right while easing the financial burden of back-to-school season. I am so proud of our teammates that go above and beyond for students in Georgia,” said J.D. Wilson, 2023 Citizens of Georgia Power President.

In 2022, Georgia Power employees reported over 42,000 hours of community outreach. To learn more about the company’s commitment to the future of Georgia, visit www.georgiapower.com/community.
