Georgia Power Contractors Save Woman's Life During Storm Cleanup

Kenyon wasn’t the only one who noticed screaming when working to restore power in Augusta, Georgia.

Kenyon, part of Georgia Power’s Distribution team in Evans, Georgia, said he was working alongside contract crews restoring power from the damage caused by Hurricane Helene on Oct. 2 when the team followed the screaming to find a woman lying on the ground. The team couldn’t detect a pulse when examining the woman, whom Kenyon said was unconscious when his team reached her. The team quickly called 911 and began CPR with the help of the automated external defibrillator (AED) from one of their bucket trucks.

“By the time the ambulance responded and got on site, [our crew] had brought the young lady back to life,” said Kenyon, who’s worked for Georgia Power for 22 years. “We definitely thank that group for their quick response to bring her back to life.”

The lineworker who saved the woman's life was part of the mutual aid network that answered Georgia Power's call for storm restoration support from across the country. Kenyon said he's proud of the company’s thorough efforts to hire contractors who prioritize safety in sensitive, stressful situations.

“It’s more than getting power restored,” Kenyon said. “[The lineworkers] care about the community that they’re in. We just can’t thank them enough.”
