Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Application Period Is Now Open

Georgia Power understands the importance having resources available to provide energy assistance to customers during the cold winter months. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps individuals and families maintain safe and healthy indoor temperatures by providing critical energy assistance services. This includes providing assistance with heating bills, restoration of heating, weatherization, and repair or replacement of heating equipment. Previously, the program’s application/eligibility period started in November; this year it began December 1.

In addition to the new start date, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released a new tool for customers to utilize to determine their eligibility. Application eligibility periods go from December 1 to July 31. Grant awards per household range from $400-$810 depending on the home’s heating source. Energy bills are a large part of every family’s budget. Heating and cooling your home make up about 50% of the typical home’s energy usage. That is why Georgia Power’s Energy Assistance team has worked year round, hosting over 230 local outreach events to let customers know what energy assistance resources are available to them.
