A series of capital projects are underway to modernize hydropower plant facilities throughout Georgia. These major improvements, part of Georgia Power’s Hydro Modernization Projects, include replacing major equipment such as turbines and generators, key components for producing energy before it's moved along power lines to millions of homes and businesses across the state.
It takes a lot of hard work and coordination to bring these upgrades to life. Amber knows first-hand. As a hydro modernization project manager for Georgia’s hydro sites, she is responsible for strategic development of the program and directing the completion of projects while ensuring that they are on budget and on schedule. Amber takes great pride in her work, and she loves working in energy generation.
“My favorite part about working in Generation is the people. Everyone is welcoming and looks out for each other. Working in Generation has been a rewarding experience.”
A Georgia Power employee of 18 years, Amber began her career as a project engineer at Plant Branch. She's held several roles through the years, including maintenance, operations, and planning team leader roles at Plant Scherer. As a planning team leader, Amber was responsible for operations and maintenance projects at Plant Miller. Her experience also included supporting Plant Miller, Plant Gorgas, and Plant Gaston as a regional planning team leader over schedule/cost. She worked as Plant Gorgas’ compliance manager before transitioning into her current role as hydro modernization project manager.
"Hydropower is the original renewable and it feels good to contribute toward providing clean energy to our customers. With the support of the new equipment that will last for another 40 years, our team will also be able to increase reliability.”
When Amber’s not busy making her rounds to north Georgia plant facilities, she’s enjoying time with her husband, daughter, and twin sons. She feels fortunate to be able to do what she loves both on and off the clock.
“I’m proud to work for a company that promotes family and work-life balance. It’s truly a gift to be able to experience meaningful moments with my family at home and the family I’ve gained in Generation.”
