Meet Janek, Engineer at Plant McIntosh CC

Janek first became enamored with the idea of energy as a young child, around age six or seven, when a friend first explained the concept of the atoms and the energy they hold. That moment, coupled with Janek’s fascination with LEGOs, started him down a path from his hometown of Marietta to Georgia Tech where he got degrees in both Psychology and Mechanical Engineering, eventually landing at Plant McIntosh, where he serves as a Plant Engineer.

As a Plant Engineer at Plant McIntosh Combined Cycle, Janek’s duties include managing and overseeing various plant projects, overseeing upgrades, maintenance, restorative activities, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. As the Chairman of the Plant Review Board, Janek is responsible for maintaining the standards of excellence and managing the Southern Company Technical Recommendation Program. His role also involves extensive preparation for plant outages, where he coordinates vendor alignment, orders necessary parts, creates work orders, defines work scopes, vets schedules, builds quality control plans, and reviews inspection documents to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the plant.

Located in Rincon, just outside Savannah, Plant McIntosh plays a crucial role in the state's energy infrastructure by providing reliable and efficient power generation. As a combined cycle plant, it utilizes both natural gas and steam turbines to maximize energy output while minimizing environmental impact. The plant's strategic location and advanced technology enable it to meet the energy demands of Georgia's growing population and industries, ensuring a stable supply of electricity. Through its operations, Plant McIntosh contributes significantly to the state's energy grid, supporting crucial daily functions for customers as well as economic development for Georgia’s coastal region.

When he isn’t at the plant, Janek can be found with his family. Married with two young children as well as one on the way, the Witharanas often take their Toyota 4Runner off-roading and on camping trips, creating memories and fostering a love for the outdoors with his kids.
