Georgia Power Hosts Hurricane Preparedness Summit

As Georgia Power prepares for an active hurricane season, the company recently hosted Emergency Management Officials from around the state for its 2022 Hurricane Preparedness Summit at Georgia Power headquarters. During the day-long event, officials with emergency management agencies, media outlets and more got a first-hand look at Georgia Power’s Storm, Social Media and Mobile Command Centers.

In addition, groups  were able to tour a mock staging site  demonstrating what the company utilizes during storm response operations. The site featured sleeper trailers, a mobile kitchen and laundry trailer typically used to support crews working during storm restoration. The drones that are used for 3-D modeling and damage assessment were even on display for guests to get an up-close look. 

Fran Forehand, senior vice president of Power Delivery, provided opening comments emphasizing Georgia Power’s commitment to providing safe, reliable service to customers and encouraging those in attendance to share feedback, ask questions and take the knowledge shared by company experts back to their own communities and teams. She also highlighted Georgia Power’s ongoing Grid Investment Project and its benefits to reliability across the state.

Throughout the day, dozens of attendees learned from Georgia Power subject matter experts about all facets of the company’s storm response. The rare, behind-the-scenes look at these specific company operations provided the true scope of Georgia Power’s commitment to storm preparedness and capabilities to respond to storm damage at a moment’s notice.

Representatives from the National Weather Service also joined Georgia Power to provide a detailed outlook on the 2022 Hurricane season.
