Georgia Power, Salvation Army Partner to ‘Do the Most Good’

The Salvation Army is dedicated to lifting up those in need. So is Georgia Power.

Separately, the two organizations have coordinated efforts to serve communities across the state of Georgia for more than 100 years. Together, they’ve been helping Georgians in need for nearly four decades.

In Metro Atlanta, The Salvation Army delivers comprehensive assistance programs to vulnerable populations. Driven by Atlanta’s rapid economic development and geography, the Metro Atlanta Area Command focuses on homelessness services, youth enrichment, and anti-trafficking.

Chima Chijoke, Vice President of Customer Service for Georgia Power, explained Georgia Power’s longstanding partnership with The Salvation Army and what it means for Georgia in an appearance on Atlanta & Co.

“We are Citizens Wherever We Serve. Project Share is one of the ways that our customers and employees support The Salvation Army,” Chijoke said.  “Through Project Share, Georgia Power helped 15,000 families in the Metro Area in 2024, ensuring that our neighbors were housed, fed, and receiving needed healthcare services.”

Major Thomas McWilliams oversees The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Area Command, which serves a 13-county footprint.

“Our social services underpin everything we do. That’s why Project Share is so important,” McWilliams said.  “The impact that’s made when someone can’t pay their power bill, turn their lights on, or heat their home. That’s pivotal to someone having hope and dignity.  So, we love our relationship with Georgia Power.”

Georgia Power customers can donate to Project Share by visiting our website or through the customer service portal, where they can add $1, $2, or $5 to their monthly utility bill.  Georgia Power matches all donations at 150 percent, meaning a $1 donation generates $1.50 in funding for The Salvation Army.
