Atlanta Falcons Player at Plant Wansley

Wes Schweizer, starting right guard for the Atlanta Falcons, visited Plant Wansley in late February to experience day-to-day operations at a power plant. The visit was in conjunction with his participation in the Atlanta Falcons University Business Development Program, which helps prepare players for a career after football by connecting them with some of Atlanta's top businesses.

While at the plant, Schweizer spent the day learning about several key areas of operation at Wansley. His all-access tour was hosted by plant manager Nick Slappy, engineering manager Malcom Leason, and fuels manager Kenneth Poole, who answered Schweizer's many questions about day-to-day life at the plant, plant operations, and the overall business of Georgia Power.

Though many would think the life of a professional football player would be a dream career, Schweizer had always had a lifelong desire to visit a working power plant. He also took the opportunity to learn more about potential careers at Georgia Power for the Atlanta Falcons University Business Development Program. Inspired by his grandfather, a veteran of the United States Navy who worked in nuclear energy facilities, Schweizer graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from San Jose State University.
