What happens if I can’t complete the 12-month contract?

Near the end of the contract period, you will receive a new Pay by Day offer for the next 12-month period. You will be renewed for 12 more months at the new contract price unless you choose to transition to a different rate. Rate Information

Is the Pay by Day rate a contract?

Yes, Pay by Day is a 12-month contract. Georgia Power agrees to offer a fixed daily price regardless of usage during the contract period, and the customer agrees to pay that amount.

How was my offer calculated?

Each customer’s customized Pay by Day amount is based on usage at the customer’s current residence during the past year, as well as their predicted usage for the upcoming 12 months.

How much does it cost to initiate my Pay by Day account if I am currently on the PrePay rate?

If you are currently on PrePay and have a positive balance on your account, all balances will transfer automatically. No additional payments are required to initiate service on the Pay by Day rate plan.

How much does it cost to initiate my Pay by Day account if I am currently on a post-pay rate?

A $40 payment is required to initiate service. Any outstanding balance on your current post-pay account will be transferred to a Deferred Payment Plan. Twenty-five (25) percent of every payment will go toward your Deferred Payment account balance until the Deferred Payment Plan reaches a zero balance.

How does this rate provide me the ability to pay off my outstanding balance over time?

If you have an outstanding balance on your account prior to signing up for Pay by Day, the balance will be placed in a Deferred Payment Plan. As part of this plan, 25 percent of every payment will be applied to the deferred balance allowing the debt to be paid back in smaller increments over time. For example, a payment of $100 will be allocated as follows: $25 towards the Deferred Payment Plan and the remaining $75 will be available for electric service in the Pay by Day account. After the outstanding balance is repaid, the full 100% of each payment will apply towards electric service.

Will my account be charged the Pay by Day amount if my power is turned off?

Yes, the Pay by Day amount will be charged to the account regardless of whether power is currently on or off at the premise. The Pay by Day program is designed to spread your cost of electricity evenly across all 365 days of your annual contract; therefore, your daily charge will accrue to your account every day.

Will there be a settlement or true-up at the end of the contract period?

No, if you fulfill the annual contract, there is no settlement to pay.

What happens at the end of the contract period?

Near the end of the contract period, you will receive a new Pay by Day offer for the next 12-month period. You will be renewed for 12 more months at the new contract price unless you choose to transition to a different rate.

You must request removal from the Pay by Day plan by contacting Georgia Power by calling 1-800-642-4590.

How does my electric usage impact my Pay by Day amount?

With the Pay by Day program, you are charged the same amount day after day regardless of your usage. However, your Pay by Day offer for the next 12-month period will be influenced by your usage behaviors during the current contract period.

Will I continue to receive a bill statement?

No. Participants in the Pay by Day program do not receive bills because they pay for their electric service in advance.

Can I change rates at the end of the 12-month contract?

Yes, but please note, if you elect to be served on another rate that is not a prepaid service you may be subject to a deposit (if required) and any remaining balance in the deferred payment account must be paid.

How will I know if my balance is getting low?

You can also check dollars and days remaining on your account anytime at georgiapower.com, or by calling our automated phone system at 1-800-642-4590.

What happens if my account balance gets to zero?

Georgia Power will provide a notification that your electric service is pending a disconnect. A minimum of five dollars ($5) positive balance will be required for reconnection if service is disconnected. After sufficient funds have been paid to bring the account to a positive balance, your electric service will be reconnected and you’ll receive a notification that your power has been restored. Restoration is normally completed within minutes, but nearly always within 4 hours (excluding force majeure).

Are disconnects due to zero or negative balances restricted to a certain time of day?

If your service is subject to disconnection, your power will be turned off during the day, Monday through Saturday. The disconnection process begins at 8:15am of the following day. Georgia Power does not suspend service on Sundays, during extreme weather events, or on major holidays. If your account falls below zero during these times, you will continue to receive power. However, your daily Pay by Day amount will continue to charge to the account during this time. You will also continue to receive balance notifications on a daily basis during this period.

Can I make payment arrangements?

Customers who participate in Pay by Day are not eligible for payment arrangements. However, you control when and how much you pay toward your electric service.

Will my assistance agency still be able to make electricity payments on my behalf?

Yes. Assistance agencies can continue to make electric bill payments for their clients that transition to Pay by Day.
