Behind Every Flip of the Switch: Meet Will

Will, a dedicated General Plant Operator at Plant Yates, has carved an impressive career path with Southern Company. 

A resident of Carrollton, Will initially joined Georgia Power in 2010, working in Distribution. In 2018, he took a bold step to pursue firefighting, and later, in 2020, he joined a Riverdale plant at Atlanta Gas Light. His journey came full circle when he returned to Georgia Power in 2023, marking his first venture into the power side of the business.

An electrician by trade, Will expresses genuine satisfaction with his role at Plant Yates, describing it as "exceptional." He appreciates the versatility his position offers, operating the plant while engaging in both mechanical and electrical tasks. 

"I get bored easily, so I like the versatility that comes with my role," Will said. This environment keeps him engaged and motivated.

Working 12-hour days, Will acknowledges the learning curve involved in transitioning to the electric side of the business. 

"It takes about two years to really soak everything in and another two to learn the job well and proficiently," he said. 

Will credits Yates’ supportive management team for setting clear expectations and fostering an inclusive work environment.

Outside of work, Will cherishes his nearly 20-year marriage with his wife, feeling blessed to have found someone compatible and still deeply in love. He is a proud father to Sadie, 15, named after his grandmother, and Gunner, 11.
