Georgia Power administrative assistant Janelle Shaffer took on a whole new challenge when she competed on the reboot of the popular 1990s competition show American Gladiators, on Amazon Prime Video. Now, the episodes are out for the world to see.
Shaffer has spent five years with Georgia Power, beginning her career supporting teams at Plant Yates, Plant McDonough, and Plant Wansley. Outside of work, she continues to stay active, making fitness a priority. Between CrossFit workouts, weightlifting sessions, and life as a working mom and wife, Shaffer stays busy—but says the discipline she’s built over the years helped prepare her for the intense demands of the show. She trained for more than a year ahead of filming, pushing herself physically and mentally to get ready for the competition.
Filming took place in France in 2025, and Shaffer says she felt the support of her coworkers, friends, and family every step of the way.
Based in Carrollton, Georgia, Shaffer has taken on a wide range of athletic challenges, including the Spartan Race, Savage Race, Tough Mudder USA, and several local CrossFit competitions. These experiences helped build her confidence heading into the Gladiators arena last summer.
“This experience was truly life‑changing,” Shaffer said. “Training for this show pushed me far beyond my comfort zone, but it also reminded me what’s possible when you commit fully to a goal. I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my family, friends, and my Georgia Power coworkers, who believed in me every step of the way. I made lifelong friendships through this process, and I’m proud to represent my hometown and my company on such a big stage.”
American Gladiators is streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
