Georgia Power Recognized as a Top Utility in Economic Development for 27th Consecutive Year by Site Selection Magazine

Site Selection Magazine has once again honored Georgia Power as a Top Utility in Economic Development, marking the 27th consecutive year the company has received this prestigious accolade. This recognition underscores Georgia Power's significant contributions to fostering economic growth and attracting substantial investments that reinforce Georgia's position as a top state for business in the United States.

Driving Economic Growth in Georgia

In 2024, Georgia Power's economic development team played a crucial role in creating nearly 17,000 jobs and $9.1 billion in capital investments. These achievements have solidified Georgia's status as a national leader in attracting large-scale opportunities, with several high-profile projects making headlines throughout the year.

Notable projects include a $344.5 million facility from glass recycler SOLARCYCLE in Cedartown, creating 600 jobs; a $184 million investment by Switzerland-based GF Casting Solutions AG in Augusta, generating 354 jobs and producing components for BMW's South Carolina plant; and a new headquarters for fantasy sports operator PrizePicks in Atlanta, bringing 1,000 jobs to the area.

“Despite projects often being impacted by election-year politics and uncertainty, our project pipeline closed at an all-time high with 312 projects and 88,500 potential jobs, directly tied to the efforts of the team to generate new leads and focus on site opportunities,” says Jennifer Zeller, Director of Strategic Solutions at Georgia Power. “Office and headquarter projects rebounded this year, reflected in our top locations, and warehousing and manufacturing locations remain strong, particularly food, aerospace, EV, and supply chain. Data center projects comprised 22% of all capital investment and 65% of total energy load demand.”

Powering the Future with Clean Energy and Innovation

Site Selection Magazine also highlights other notable updates, including the completion of a fourth nuclear unit at Georgia Power’s Plant Vogtle in April 2024. With Vogtle Unit 4 in operation, Georgia is now the home to the largest generator of emissions-free energy in the United States.

To keep innovating, Georgia Power has updated its online tools, including the Site Selector and Site Assessment Matrix. Additionally, tools like the Project Map Tool and Tax Digest Tool help create interactive maps and show county tax details, making it easier for prospects, communities and companies to make informed decisions and plans.

Georgia Power is also helping local economies through the CREATE (Cultivating Resilient Entrepreneurs and Transforming Economies) program, and recently hosted an entrepreneurship summit in Macon to help communities develop plans that encourage small business growth and community revitalization.
