Plant Mitchell began commercial operation in 1948 in Dougherty County and Mitchell County, Georgia and was retired in 2016. Prior to retirement, the plant had one coal-fired unit and simple cycle combustion turbines capable of producing 240 MW of electricity.
The company prepares and submits an ash pond dewatering plan to Environmental Protection Division for its approval. This site-specific plan identifies the enhanced water treatment system, controls and monitoring that will be used during the process to ensure that the water discharged is protective of water quality standards.
Discharged water is being actively sampled in compliance with federal and state regulations. Data results will be updated as the process continues.
Georgia Power submitted CCR permit applications to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) in November 2018. The documents provided below represent the approved permit(s) or current submittals as of July 2021 still under EPD review and the link to the final EPD approved CCR permit and documents will be provided upon permit issuance.
