Metro West Citizens of Georgia Power Serve Hispanic Community

Did you know the state of Georgia has one of the highest Hispanic and Latino populations in the United States? Since the late 1990’s, the population has grown exponentially and with that, the need to provide services for individuals and families as they navigate a new culture.

Ser Familia, Inc., is an organization dedicated to strengthening Latino families through programs that empower them to thrive and enjoy a healthy family environment. This summer, the non-profit became the first EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) center in Georgia that provide services in Spanish.

In August, the Metro West Citizens of Georgia Power chapter volunteered with Ser Familia as part of their annual legacy project. Legacy projects are completed by the 42 Citizens of Georgia Power chapters every year and are intended to leave a lasting impact on the communities where their members live, work and serve.

As part of their projects, employee volunteers painted, organized and cleaned a new office space for Ser Familia as they move from Acworth to Smyrna this fall.

“It brings so much joy to my heart that they are serving the Latino community and equipping and empowering them with skills to be successful,” said Lisa Santos, president of the Metro West Citizens of Georgia Power chapter.

The new location will serve more than 40,000 Hispanics and Latinos in metro Atlanta with services including workshops for couples, youth, family and parents, as well as counseling, therapy, advocacy support and cultural and linguistic proficiency consulting.
