Georgia Power recruiting lineworkers, celebrates Lineworker Appreciation Month

This Lineworker Appreciation Month, Georgia Power invites customers and members of the community to join us in thanking those who have devoted their lives to bringing electricity to our customers, every day, no matter what. 

“Every April, we proudly acknowledge and celebrate our lineworkers and the incredible team members within Power Delivery that play an integral role in providing world-class service to our customers by keeping the power on across the state,” said Fran Forehand, SVP of Power Delivery at Georgia Power.

Now, more than ever, there is a crucial need for lineworkers. Georgia Power will continue investing in the next generation of power delivery employees. The company employs over 700 lineworkers and counting and works with organizations around the state to acquire the best new talent from technical colleges.

This year, Georgia Power will highlight the heroes without a cape, the lineworkers across the state. Are you interested in joining them? Here are some things you need to know.

1. This is a crucial role in an essential industry.
   As a lineworker, your job is to assemble and maintain the power delivery system to provide safe and reliable service for those in your community.Lineworkers engage in the construction of overhead and underground power distribution systems.“These jobs are extremely important and really changes our communities for the better. 2. Safety must be your number one priority as a Georgia Power employee.

3. Excellent Pay and Benefits
   As an Apprentice Lineworker, you can expect to earn $50,000. Once you work your way up to be a Journeyman, your salary will jump to around at least $96,000, while Crew Leaders take home at least $103,500 every year. Beyond your base pay, there will be plenty of overtime opportunities, in addition to medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and a retirement program.

Job Requirements
To become a line worker with Georgia Power, you must meet the following requirements:

• Maintain <270 lbs. weight
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License
• High school diploma or GED
• Nicotine, drug and alcohol free
• Pass pre-employment testing

Prepare for Success
There are two tests to pass before you can become a Georgia Power lineworker. The first is the Construction and Skilled Trade Selection System (CAST), which measures math problem-solving, comprehension of mechanical principles and reading comprehension. Test prep and practice tests will help you put your best foot forward.

You’ll also need to go through Physical Abilities Testing (PAT), which measures your ability to perform the physical job requirements through a variety of exercises.
